David Beckstoffer prides himself in being a great vintner and is as patient as they come. On the search for the perfect vineyard to launch his own label, it took many years until he founded Beckstoffer Bourn Vinyard in Napa Valley. The land proved fruitful and Kata Cabernet was born packaged ever so dainty with bottles wrapped in earth tone paper in a solid oak box. The bottle's label softly illustrates David's journey through the use of a topographic line drawing.

"The name, Kata, refers to a choreographed series of movements, practiced solo or in pairs, through which the student of martial arts achieves mastery by means of discipline and repetition. We like how the idea of mastery relates to the dedicated practice of creating a distinctive wine that is a pure expression of its vineyard terroir. The brand line “The Story of the Wine Is In The Vineyard” further reflects David’s philosophy of letting the vineyard speak through his wines."

"With a nuanced and elegant wine by winemaker Benoit Touquette, beginning to show subtle and complex character in the bottle, we set out to create a label and packaging system that evoked the quiet confidence of Kata. The resulting package artfully conveys the unique character of the wine and its vineyard site, combining bottle, box and collateral for a cohesive and distinctive presentation. The Kata website serves both brand communications and e-commerce objectives for a unified, luxury tier brand experience that has received rave reviews from collectors and the trade."
