Three Ways to Quickly Spin a Favorite Sketch

On yesterday’s post, I shared this video and card with a simple design.  Today’s card demonstrates the same card but with a few changes for a new look.

Simply:

1.  Pop on a new sentiment.

2.  Play with new colors.  I used a trio of Crushed Curry, Melon Mambo and Pumpkin Pie, a combination suggested by my Stampin’ Up! Color Coach (#130118).

3.  Add a touch of Designer Series Paper or a new embellishment.  I opted for a Stampin’ Up! a Rhinestone Basic Jewel (#119246) for a little bling.

Yesterday, I promised I would share a favorite way to “package” a handmade card for delivery.  To protect my cards in the mail, I cover the bumps (embellishments, ribbon, etc.) with a piece of coordinating cardstock.

However, for a real WOW! factor, I emboss the added piece of cardstock.  I used the Stampin’ Up! Large Polka Dot Embossing Folder (133739) on Melon Mambo cardstock for today’s card.

I used Beautifully Baroque Embossing Folder (130917) on Real Red cardstock for yesterday’s wedding card.

  1. You’re a genius! I have struggled with “covering the bumps” on my cards when I mail them.. Last year at Christmas I put cardboard in front of the “bumps” and my cards were so stiff the USPS charged me almost two dollars per card to mail. Because they were stiff they considered them packages. Your idea to use embossed, coordinating cardstock is a fantastic tip, thank you!

  2. Great idea to protect cards with extra embossing and special corners. Thanks, Mary! Both cards do pretty and like the way you lined the hearts up. Thanks for sharing. Hugs!

  4. Mary, thanks for doing the video class for us. It was great. You have so many helpful tips for us and I try them all. The card is adorable – simple yet a really catches your eye. It was great to see the different ones you came up with just by the simple changes in colors, sentiment, etc. The part I really appreciated was your tip on the extra piece of card stock that you put on you cards. I have always done that, but NEVER thought of using a coordinating color and embossing it. That is just so cool instead of just a blank neutral piece. WOW! Thanks for sharing. Can’t wait to see what you do for with your Anniversary Pictures. Thank you for sharing them as it was so much fun to follow along on your trip.

  5. LOVE this color combination Mary. Great tip to add an extra piece of cardstock….but BRILLIANT to add a WOW FACTOR to that extra piece of cardstock and run it through an embossing folder. LOVE IT!

  6. Mary – LOVE your ideas and the simple beauty of these cards is brilliant! What a great way to use up some of those small scraps of paper too, punch a bunch of hearts to have on hand to throw a card together in a pinch!

The matching embossed cardstock is a perfect way to protect the bling. Sure beats what I’ve been using (old thin cardboard from packaging)!

Thank you for all your inspirations!

  7. Love both of the cards. Such a versatile layout. I’m thinking of making a card similar to your first one for my grand niece’s second birthday. It will go with a new Cabbage Patch dolly that I bought her. Her Mom says that she gets a card in the mail and runs around the house holding it. Pretty special, I’d say!

  8. Love your idea for embossing the cover card stock for mailing. Since I like the idea of using birthday cards more than once, I will put my message on a piece of card stock and include an extra envelope. The envelope will act as a buffer in the mail, the same way a piece of card stock will. It’s kind of like sending a small gift of a card along. Thanks for sharing your ideas, Mary.

It warms my heart already. Love it and I’ll be making up some of these little gems! Thank you for embossed paper tip to cover up the embellies. What a beautiful extra protection piece!! So professional and made with care. Also, I need to use my color coach more, it is an awesome little color helper guy!

    Have a great day!
