Boehringer Ingelheim picks up tab for BQA certification

Through Friday, October 31, Boehringer Ingelheim will foot the bill for beef and dairy producers to be certified in the Beef Quality Assurance program. The livestock health company’s Cattle Business Executive Director Steve Boren tells Brownfield Ag News that Beef Quality Assurance education aligns with Boehringer Ingelheim’s focus of preventing disease in cattle.

“Things like proper animal handling, proper vaccination, the elimination of injection site blemishes, good record keeping, management of feedstuffs and all the things that are involved with beef quality assurance help us produce a better product by the end of the day,” Boren told Brownfield Ag News on Tuesday.  “That’s of course what brings the consumer back time and time again, and enjoying and consuming beef.”

The BQA certification modules fit specific segments of the cattle industry covering best management practices for cow-calf, stocker, feedlot or dairy operations.

“It’s the right thing for the animal, it’s the right thing for producers, it lowers input costs and improves productivity and it’s certainly the right thing for the consumer,” he said.

Depending on which BQA module is chosen, the value of BQA certification paid by Boehringer Ingelheim is from $25 to $50.  More than 11,000 producers have taken advantage of the company’s BQA certification sponsorship.
