2015 – The Year of the Farmer
For the past several years, the Indiana State Fair has celebrated different commodities that are vital to the state’s agriculture industry. From corn, pigs, and soybeans to tomatoes, trees and dairy – the state fair has been an opportunity to educate the consumer about the food they eat. In 2015, the Indiana State Fair, in partnership with Dow AgroSciences will celebrate the one thing that all those commodities have in common – the farmer.
Doug Morrow farms near Swayzee, Ind. He says this is a great opportunity to tell agriculture’s story. “There’s a lot of concern about food safety- and it starts with the farmer,” he says. “That’s where we start with the produce or the raw product to make our food. I think that just being able to let people understand what we do and how we do it and how our day is planned will change people’s perspective in how we handle our operations.”

Indiana State Fair Executive Director Cindy Hoye says one of the main reasons the Indiana State Fair continues its strong tradition after 157 years is because of the emphasis on agriculture.
Which is why, she says, the theme this year is perfect. “We’re going to have a farmer of the day – so when you come into the fairgrounds you’ll get your program with a picture of a farmer and information about that farmer,” she says. “We’ve got a number of things up our sleeve to make sure people can appreciate and recognize the contributions of Hoosier farmers.”
