‘Really good’ corn yields in central Nebraska

It’s been a good week for harvest activity in Nebraska.

Bart Beattie, who farms near the town of Sumner in central Nebraska, tells Brownfield that they wrapped up soybeans earlier in the week.  He says their soybean yields were down this year.

“A lot of it was due to early frost and some early hail damage,” Beattie says, “and then we even had some late hail damage as of a week ago that actually knocked a lot of beans out and caused some issues there.”

But Beattie expects much better results on corn.

“We took some high moisture corn out early this week and sent it to a feedlot,” he says. “It was running in that 25 to 28 percent area—and yields are really good, in that 230-plus range on irrigated corn.”

Beattie says the corn has been slow to dry down this fall.  But he says moisture levels have dropped “quite a bit” this week.
