The Austrian Mint has unveiled the second coin within the “Wildlife in Our Sights” which features the Wild Boar. The series celebrates the diversity of Europe’s native wildlife with depictions of six of the continent’s most recognizable wild animals on the obverse and their native habitat on the reverse.
The obverse design of the new coin features a profile of a male wild boar with its tusks plainly visible. The animal appears amidst grasses, oak leaves, and acorns, with an ornate decorative border beneath. The same style of border will be used throughout the series to provide a unifying characteristic across the six coins.
On the reverse is a scene of a female, or sow, watching over her young offspring as they wallow playfully in the mud. A badger looks on within the woodland habitat which is rich with oak trees, which provide acorns for the wild boar to eat.
The coins are struck in 98.6% gold to proof quality with a weight of 16.22 grams (fine weight of 16.00 grams) and diameter of 30.00 mm. The maximum mintage is 30,000 pieces.
Delivery for the 2014 Wild Boar Gold Coins will start on October 29, 2014. A product page appears on the Austrian Mint website here.
The previous release within the “Wildlife in Our Sights” series featured the Red Deer.

Pretty coin. I’m going to add it to the collection, but last year I had huge issues with my bank getting them the money because none of my credit cards participate in the Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode. Which the Austrian Mint requires for credit card purchases.
Has anyone found a more painless way to get stuff from them?

I don’t know about the gold issues, but most of their silver coins are available from Royal Scandinavian Mint in Utah, and otherwise I’d try one of many major German dealers such as Tobias Honscha, Star-Shop Coins or Numismatik4you.de

Woah! Rich, where’d you get the quote?
