Jon Stewart: Political Fundraising Emails Like "Nigerian Prince Selling a Groupon Deal for Boner Pills"
With midterms on the horizon, the proud tradition of politicians groveling for campaign cash is upon us. On last night's Daily Show, Jon Stewart skewered Democrats' seemingly frantic fundraising efforts ahead of the election.
But aren't Democrats the party that wants to curb the influence of money in politics?
"Recently, the Democrats' reticence for fundraising was truly on display," Stewart notes. Among other things, President Obama made an appearance at a fundraising event put on by Gwyneth Paltrow and another by a real estate mogul literally named Rich Richman.
"That might not be the best way to send a message about your contempt for money in politics," Stewart notes.
But it's not just wealthy real estate moguls and Hollywood stars that are in politicians' sights. "The emails. Oh dear God the emails from the Democrats will not stop." The emails begging for cash seem to come with "a frequency and desperation matched only by a Nigerian Prince selling a Groupon deal for boner pills.”
From an invite to join the POTUS in LA to the promise of a trip to Broadway, there's no limit to the absurd ways Democrats are trying to get cash. Watch Stewart make fun of them below:
