Wednesday midday cash livestock markets

We are still not hearing about much action in cattle country. It is possible that packer inquiry could start to improve today as many packers remain short bought, but it is also possible significant business will wait until the end of the week. Asking prices are generally around 162.00 to 163.00 in the South and 253.00 to 255.00 plus in the North.

Boxed beef cutout values are firm to higher with choice up .09 at 238.12, and select 227.19 up .74.

Feeder cattle receipts at the Ozark’s Regional Stockyards at West Plains, Missouri totaled 2899 head. Compared to last week, feeder steers traded 3.00 to 9.00 higher with feeder heifers 3.00 to 6.00 higher. Yearlings were lightly tested with a firm to slightly higher undertone. Demand was very good on a moderate supply. Feeder steers medium and large 1 averaging 624 pounds traded at 253.73 per hundredweight. 680 pound heifers averaged 240.83.

Barrows and gilts in the Iowa/Minnesota direct trade are 2.99 lower with a weighted average of 105.85 on a carcass basis, the West is down 2.59 at 105.91, and the East is .58 higher at 102.23. Missouri direct base carcass meat price is steady from 95.00 to 102.00. Midwest hogs are fully steady on a live basis from 70.00 to 77.00.

The pork carcass cutout value is .60 higher at 122.58 FOB plant.

Wholesale pork demand remains on an impressive roll, surging another $1.00 plus higher on Tuesday thanks in large part to an $8.29 pop in the belly primal. Since the low following Labor Day, the cut-out has now advanced by $20.39.
