A good year for the FFA

Wedig & DavisThere were more than 4,000 FFA jackets to be seen all over the grounds at World Dairy Expo on Tuesday as members from chapters across the state participated in the annual judging contests.  One jacket that stood out was one with no state or chapter on the back, just the FFA emblem.  National Vice President Wes Davis is in Wisconsin this week to help with Sectional Leadership Workshops and took time to attend World Dairy Expo on Tuesday.  He is especially happy with last week’s announcement that FFA membership has exceeded 610,000: an all-time high.  He thinks the key has been making students aware of the opportunities available in agriculture.

In just a month, Davis’s year as National Officer will come to an end, he says the greatest experience has been to meet all of the members across the country.  His retiring address will be: “Here for a Reason” but he wouldn’t elaborate beyond saying “We all have a passion we just need to find what it is we are supposed to do.”

Davis talks about his year:

It has been a very busy summer for Wisconsin State FFA President Alison Wedig; from training, to State Fair to Sectional Leadership Workshops and World Dairy Expo.  She is also celebrating a 31-year-high in membership with over 19,000 in Wisconsin.  She has enjoyed getting to know more of the Wisconsin FFA members and helping train the leadership for those chapters across the state.  She shares Davis’ enthusiasm for the opportunities the agriculture students have before them.
