Indiana harvest is picking up pace

Warm and dry weather helped crops move closer to maturity.  According to the latest Crop and Weather report form the Indiana office of the National Ag Statistics Service 11 percent of the corn crop and 9 percent of soybean crop have been harvested.  The average moisture content of the harvested corn crop is 24 percent and 14 percent for soybeans.

Both corn and soybean conditions remain steady as they continue to dry down for harvest.  Seventy-seven percent of the corn and 73 percent of soybeans are in good to excellent condition.

In other crops around the state 74 percent of the tobacco has been harvested, 74 percent of alfalfa has had its fourth cutting, and winter wheat planting has begun.
