Ohio crop progress slightly behind average

Compared to last year and the 5-year average, crop progress in Ohio for both corn and soybeans is behind. 

As of Sunday, September 28, the Ohio field office of the National Ag Statistics Service (NASS) has 92 percent of the Ohio corn crop dented, compared to 94 percent for the 5-year average. 48 percent of the corn crop is mature, three points behind the average pace. Corn harvest is seven percent complete. 74 percent of the corn crop is in fair-to-good condition. 

75 percent of the Ohio soybean crop is dropping leaves and 9 percent of the crop has been harvested. 77 percent of soybeans are in fair-to-good condition. 

15 percent of the wheat crop has been planted, that’s eight points ahead of the 5-year average, two percent of the crop has emerged. 

Tobacco harvest is 82 percent complete. 

The latest crop and weather report has topsoil moisture in Ohio 73 percent adequate to surplus.
