Dave Pressler is known as one of the “robot guys” in the art world, and he’s built up a massive online following with his eclectic creations over the years. It’s not surprising that he was tapped by DreamWorksTV (the official YouTube for DreamWorks Animation) to create original content for their channel, curated by AwesomenessTV. Even after twenty years as an illustrator, character designer, fine-art painter, sculptor and television producer (the Nickelodeon, Emmy-nominated Robot And Monster), it’s still amazing that Dave is breaking new ground in his craft. The new endeavor is two-fold: in addition to creating the new series How To Do Everything, With Garrick And Marvin, Dave is also doing stop-motion animation for the first time. The videos can be seen at www.YouTube.com/DreamworksAnimation.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes by art documentarian Eric Mihn Swenson about Dave Pressler’s new series:

DreamWorksTV just launched on YouTube, aimed at family entertainment, with familiar DreamWorks characters, including  Shrek, Puss in Boots and the Kung Fu Panda, along with  YouTube’s talent roster of A-list vloggers. DreamWorksTV combines DreamWorks Animation’s expertise as a global family entertainment brand with the digital savvy of AwesomenessTV, the fastest growing online destination for teens, which DreamWorks acquired a year ago.

DreamWorksTV will showcase original live-action and animated short-form content, with a mix of fresh new voices and iconic characters. Series highlights include family-friendly versions of reality TV (Prank My Parents, Record Setter Kids), original animated web series from top creators (Jimmy Blue Shorts, Gorillaville and Report Card) as well as vlog posts from DreamWorks’ stable of fan favorite characters. The ambitious effort will be overseen by AwesomenessTV founder Brian Robbins.

“DreamWorksTV is committed to delivering original content, from scripted live-action series based on great characters like Richie Rich, to fresh new animated characters like Jimmy Blue Shorts to vlogs and other short-form content featuring the much beloved Shrek, Po and Puss in Boots,” said Robbins. “We are combining the DreamWorks brand with lessons learned from AwesomenessTV to create content that will be embraced by families everywhere.”
