A change in weather across the Heartland next week

Over the weekend, high pressure will maintain dry, warm weather from the Corn Belt into the Mid- Atlantic and Northeast. Meanwhile, showers associated with a surge of Gulf moisture will gradually spread into the Southeast, reaching the southern Mid-Atlantic by early next week. Farther west, a developing storm system will generate increasingly heavy showers across the Great Basin and Southwest into the Rockies. Moisture from this system will reach the northern Plains by Sunday, and overspread the rest of the central and southern Plains Monday into Tuesday.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for above-normal temperatures along the Pacific Coast and throughout the eastern half of the U.S., while cooler-than-normal conditions will cover the northern High Plains and much of the West. Meanwhile, above-normal precipitation in parts of the Southeast and from the Plains to the Mississippi Valley will contrast with drier-than-normal weather in northern New England and most areas west of the Rockies.
