Habitat for Humanity Ag Build heads home

Over the 17 day run of the Indiana State Fair more than 380 local agribusiness volunteers dedicated nearly 3,000 hours to construct the Habitat for Humanity Ag Build home.  Today, Habitat homeowner Arlene Fuentes’ home moves to its permanent location.

Abri Hochstetler with the Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity says from the volunteers to the home itself, Indiana is on display.  “Some of the items you’ll find in the home are Indiana agricultural items,” she says.  “We have corn backed carpet, there are soy based cleaning products for Arlene to use, the Indiana Family of Farmers will fill a freezer full of food.  Those will serve as a reminder of her home journey and a reminder of how the Indiana agriculture community supported her house.”

After the house is placed today – Habitat for Humanity will make the final preparations for Arlene to move into her new home.  “We’ll finish up with some landscaping,” she says.  “And Dow AgroSciences is actually volunteering some time and plants to make that possible.  Then we hope to close and have Arlene in her new home by the end of October or beginning of November.  Just in time for the holidays.”

Hochstetler tells Brownfield the home showcases how each homeowner is a community builder and is a reminder that agriculture impacts consumers’ daily lives – beyond the dinner plate.
