South Dakota’s corn, soybeans three-quarters good to excellent

There was very little rain across South Dakota this past week, but still, topsoil moisture 87 percent adequate to surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 1 percent very short, 13 short, 83 adequate, and 3 surplus.

South Dakota’s corn crop is 74 percent good to excellent. It’s 22 percent mature, which is behind the 37 percent last year and well behind 44 percent average.

Soybeans are 75 percent good to excellent, and 56 percent are dropping leaves.  That’s behind the 68 percent last year and the 77 percent average. Winter wheat planting is 38 percent done, which is close to normal.

Spring wheat harvest is 97 percent done, which is about normal.

Sorghum is 85 percent good to excellent with 88 percent of the crop turning color and 15 percent mature. One percent of the crop is harvested.

Alfalfa hay 75 percent good to excellent, with the third cutting 70 percent complete.  The fourth cutting is 10 percent complete.
