Nebraska’s corn harvest is underway

Nebraska’s 2014 harvest season is getting underway.

As of Sunday, three percent of the state’s corn crop had been harvested compared to the five-year average of nine percent.  Soybean harvest, at one percent complete, was four points behind average.  The sorghum harvest is also underway, at one percent complete.

Forty-one percent of dry beans were harvested, near the 44 average.

The fourth cutting of alfalfa hay was 66 percent complete.  Pasture and range conditions rated 54 percent good to excellent and 33 percent fair.

Fifty-six percent of the winter wheat crop had been planted, slightly ahead of average.  Eleven percent of the wheat has emerged.
