Grassley: ‘No chance’ for WOTUS bill in Senate at present

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says there is “no chance” that the Senate will consider the House-passed bill to stop implementation of the EPA’s proposed Waters of the U.S. rules before the November elections.

Grassley says Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid won’t allow it. If the Republicans are successful in regaining control of the Senate in November, Grassley says that could change. But Grassley says as hard as ag groups are working to stop the EPA’s proposal, environmental groups are working just as hard to make it happen.

“This is a big issue with environmentalists–and Reid, running the Senate, backs their efforts,” Grassley says. “They want the regulation to go through—not be stopped by Congress—and they want this power grab that’s going to make farming very difficult in the future.”

President Obama has indicated he would veto such a bill if it reaches his desk.
