The Best Italian Love Song of All Time

Right at the top of Italian website Le Canzoni di Amore’s list of the 100 best Italian love songs of all time is Albachiara by Italian rocker Vasco Rossi. As you will learn shortly, this mother of all Italian love songs is not entirely Italian.

While the lyrics to Albachiara were written by Rossi, the music was composed by both Italian Rossi and English expat musician Alan Taylor.

Here’s the song Rossi and Taylor put together along with karaoke-style lyrics so you can sing along if you so choose. The lyrics are not too difficult to understand if you know some Italian, well, I don’t think they are.

Vasco Rossi, who is still going strong, has been around since the late 1970s. The track Albachiara was first released in 1979 and appeared on his Non siamo mica gli americani album.

So now you know – Rossi’s all Italian love song is actually the product of a collaboration between an Italian and an Englishman. Who says the English are not romantic?!

If you hadn’t guessed already,  Le Canzoni di Amore is Love Songs in English.
