The other targeted Hyatt fall promo

By now you’ve probably seen one of the many reports of 50,000 point bonus offers circulating for Hyatt Gold Passport members based on booking stays between 1 September 2014 – 30 November 2014. It is a targeted promo and plenty of people have not been included in the targeting for the offer, including me. I’m OK with that, I suppose, but I was a bit surprised when I did receive an offer last night for a different targeted bonus.

It is slightly challenging to read that white text on the yellow/orange background but the offer is:

Earn 2,000 Hyatt Gold Passport bonus points after your next eligible stay from September 1 through November 30, 2014

I was actually reasonably impressed with this offer at first blush, figuring that 2,000 bonus points per stay could be quite lucrative, especially as I have a few trips during the promo period where the hotel decision has not yet been made. I would at least consider this when looking at the Hyatt rates. Alas, I was mistaken. It is not 2,000 points per stay. It is a max of 2,000 points total:

You will receive 2,000 Hyatt Gold Passport bonus points after your first Eligible Stay from September 1, 2014 through November 30, 2014. A maximum 2,000 bonus points may be earned, regardless of the number of stays completed during the offer period.

I have only one stay and one night YTD. I’m not a huge Hyatt customer by any stretch. But it seems that such a small potential bonus isn’t really going to do much to sway travel patterns for anyone.

Turns out there are also 5,000 and 10,000 point versions out there which are starting to be in the ballpark of something resembling a promo rich enough to grab my attention. But 2,000 points most certainly is not.

  1. I’m a diamond with over 40 stays so far this year and did not receive any bonus offers — although everyone I know did. Disappointing.

  2. These companies think they are getting so smart with their individualized offers. They must know more about us than we do ourselves. Time to start staying at individual hotels and skip the chains altogether?

  3. I got the 5k offer. I’ll try to take them up on that. Seems fairly decent if I can fit it in to normal travel.

  4. I received the same 2000-point offer. Since Hyatt prices are fairly competitive against Starwood, I looked at this as a gift. I may or may not use it. Certainly it’s not a “free stay” gift, like a 5000-point offer, but it’s a nice gesture nonetheless.
