Soybean rating improves a little

The U.S. soybean condition rating improved a little over the past week, according to USDA, while corn slipped slightly.

As of Sunday, 72% of corn is in good to excellent condition, down 1% on the week, but still 11% more than this time last year. 70% of the crop is at the dough making stage, compared to 49% a year ago and the five year average of 63%, with 22% of the crop dented, compared to 10% last year and 27% on average.

71% of soybeans are called good to excellent, up 1% on the week and 9% on the year. 95% of the crop is blooming, compared to 91% a year ago and 95% on average, with 83% at the pod setting stage, compared to 70% last year and 79% on average.

17% of spring wheat is harvested, compared to 16% a year ago and 33% on average, with 68% of the crop rated good to excellent, down 2% on the week.

48% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent shape, 2% less than last week.
