Discount on offer for non-travel United awards

Any chance you’re planning to redeem MileagePlus points for a non-travel reward in the next six weeks? I hope not, as it generally is a pretty bad deal, but just in case you are considering it you can get a discount on the transaction with the new Award Adventure game United has running right now.

Discounts seem to range from 10% to 50% (mine was 25%) and that could be enough to put some of the redemption options into the “marginal” category from the “are you kidding me” level the merchandise redemptions typically hover around. How well you play the game has nothing to do with the discount amount (according to the fine print) so don’t worry too much about that is you just want the discount.

Also, there’s a daily prize and when you play the game you’re entered for that drawing as well. And the game is somewhat fun to play, so that’s nice.

    1. I have no idea because I’ve never considered redeeming points for gift cards and would tell anyone who asked that it is a horrible idea. Even with a 25% discount.

  1. United seems to have an all out campaign to get you to redeem on anything but premium partner space. It must cost them $$ when you do that.

    1. All of them cost the carriers money. Partner awards generally cost the most relative to the number of points required. No surprise there, really.
