After my bulk foods purchases last week, we are having a more “eat from the freezer and pantry” type menu this week. I did buy some produce and other weekly essentials, but for the most part I will be using things we already had on hand. I am looking forward to being back in my semi-finished remodeled kitchen!

What spaghetti sauce recipe do you use? All the ones i have tried have net a thumbs down with my family.

Thanks for posting the recipe for chicken chimichangas, they are so good in restaurants but I’ve never attempted them at home because I assumed I needed a deep fryer. I read several of the reviews of the recipe on the website and there seemed to be a big debate over whether to add the cinnamon as the recipe calls for. I’m curious what you do Brigette?
What are pizza bierocks?
Brigette says
I have made chimichangas before, but this particular recipe is new for me. I will do the cinnamon (I have a couple of other ethnic recipes that have cinnamon as an “odd” ingredient in them, and we like those recipes), but since I actually haven’t made this recipe, I can’t speak with authority. 🙂
Pizza bierocks are just regular bierock dough (you can google bierocks if you are unfamiliar – they are an enclosed sandwich – kind of like a calzone – that are normally filled with meat and cabbage) with pizza fillings. I do sauce, cheese and whatever pizza toppings we like/have on hand. They also freeze and reheat great!

Brigette,
You do a wonderful job of planning nutritious (and delicious) meals for your family all while keeping a modest grocery budget! Way to go! You are an inspiration! 🙂

You are so sweet! Thank you for the encouragement!! 🙂

It is so nice to always see so much *real* food in your shopping trip posts. And I’m jealous of Harris Teeter’s prices! It kills me that we have a multitude of Krogers and their “everyday low prices” are so much higher than HT’s–even HTs in trendy, expensive college towns.
Brigette says
Harris Teeter’s everyday prices are actually probably more expensive than Kroger (I did a lot of Kroger shopping when we lived in MI) – BUT, they are hands-down better in my opinion because of their awesome coupon doubling/special coupon events, AMAZING customer service, and their sale prices (99% of my purchases there are things on sale, as some of their “normal” prices are ridiculous!).
