Last week’s weather good for Indiana crops

Light precipitation and cool weather allowed for farmers to catch up on field work and provided crops with decent growing weather last week.

Seventy-five percent of Indiana’s corn crop is rated good to excellent with 42 percent of the crop silking.  Seventy-one percent of soybeans are rated good to excellent with 55 percent of the crop blooming and 18 percent setting pods.

Winter wheat harvest is well under way with 76 percent of the crop harvested.  Farmers in the southern part of the state have reported vomitoxin content in their wheat crop.

In other crops around the state 64 percent of the second cutting of alfalfa hay is complete and 65 percent of range and pastures are rated good to excellent.
