UNESCO 2014 World Heritage Inscriptions

Congratulations to the 26 new inscriptions on the UNESCO World Heritage Site List. The collection this year was agreed upon late last month at the group’s annual meeting. And, like always, the list includes a wide variety of locations. From the Silk Road to the birth of the Ottoman Empire and even a nod to a winery region in Italy, most any traveler can find something on the list which attracts them. Interestingly, the addition of Piedmont is at least the second wine region on the list; the other I’m aware of is the Lavaux Wine Terraces in Switzerland which I found to be a spectacular visit a couple years ago.

And, because I can, the new sites have also been added to the list at my World Heritage Site visit tracking tool. I cannot add any of these to my visit list yet, but I think there’s a decent chance some will be on it soon. I’m a bit disappointed that I was so close to the one in Gujarat last month and didn’t get over to visit, but that’s what a work trip will do, I suppose.

  1. Hi Seth,
I am trying to add some of the new travel sites to my list on your Travel Tools. The new sites appear, but I cannot add them to my total. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    1. Which specific site are you having trouble with and are you adding it via the “Add” or “Multi-add” page? I just added one from the new list successfully so at least some of them are working.

  2. I have tried to add South China Karst and Qhapaq Nan Andean Road System using both the multi-add page as well as the regular add a site using two different browsers. With the multi-add I get an error page. With the other it appears to go through but it does not add it to the stats. Hope this helps.

    1. The South China Karst visit added successfully (multiple times, actually). Because you didn’t put a date for the visit it will be at the bottom of your visit list.

There was a problem with the Andean road system which I’ve now fixed. Sorry for the troubles.

  3. Thanks so much. Reconstructing the dates visited is a long term project I need to do in order to get all those visits up to date. I think I added South China Karst so many times because it was not rolling over the count. I had 181 before the two adds and it kept saying 181 after trying to add both the new sites. Now it is at 182 after adding two. Had been keeping track of that:) So not sure exactly how I lost one…

  4. Ok, I’ve solved it. Looks like “South China Carst” was an existing entry and they just added new areas so not sure it is a new site, but rather an extension of an already existing site. So, adding it was not a new entry for me. Make sense? So, I kept adding it thinking it would bump up the number count and it didn’t:(
