When we hurt someone or offend them because they misinterpreted our actions, it’s really easy for us to dismiss the offense and excuse it because it wasn’t our intention. We can always blame it on them for being easily offended or soft, but the truth is, we have to be responsible for the perception we give. That’s a part of being Craveable.
What I do, say and display forms the opinion others have of me.
The truth is, most of us always have great intentions.
We rarely mean to hurt other people, and we rarely mean to give the wrong perception.
Let’s say that you make a comment to your wife about her new hair style. Now, everything you say in that conversation could have been meant as a compliment about the difference in her appearance. However, if she perceives something else, there’s no amount of excuses or explaining that can correct how she feels. You can try to explain yourself to her and tell her how you didn’t mean to hurt her feelings, but good luck with that. She perceived what you said in such a way that you hurt her.
We have to own the perception we give. How can what you and I display give people a better understanding of who Jesus is? What needs to change about my actions, my speech, even my appearance that can make Jesus more craveable to the people around me? We can’t dismiss it as their problem any longer. We have to own the perception… not just the intention.
We have to be Craveable to those outside the kingdom. Jesus was.
Just a reminder to me and you… Perception is King!
