Jon Stewart: Dick Cheney Is ‘America’s Tragedy Herpe’
It’s bad enough that Dick Cheney never assumed responsibility for pushing the US into a drawn-out, expensive and fruitless war in Iraq. But now that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria is sweeping across territory once occupied by American soldiers, Cheney is stooping to a new low: blaming President Obama for the chaos sowed by the Bush administration.
In a segment last night, John Stewart skewered the former vice president—who he calls “America’s tragedy herpe”—for criticizing Obama for his decision not to send more US troops to Iraq to address the growing crisis. But back in 2009, Cheney bragged that the Bush administration had managed to negotiate a security agreement with the Iraqi government and begin withdrawing troops—measures he calls “evidence of significant success.” Unless, as Stewart puts it, “some other guy comes in and abides by the agreement that Bush and I negotiated. If someone did that it would be tantamount to America rolling over on its back, showing its belly and then urinating on itself.”
