Bottom Line

There is exceptional summer availability between Houston and Europe for 50% off the normal mileage redemption with Air France or KLM. The flight to Europe is cheaper because the taxes and fees are only $87.99. So the outbound from the U.S. can add value if you are looking for a cheap way to get to Europe this summer.

The Air Lingus is also a good option using British Airways Avios points for coach at 25,000 miles plus ~$150 in taxes and fees, but that is only to and from Dublin. The Air France promo awards includes destinations beyond just Paris and Amsterdam.

  1. This promo is just about killing me. I’ve been stewing about it for a week now trying to figure out if I want to risk the connection between a paid domestic leg (to get to and from IAH) and the promo award. No way to do it on the same PNR. If anyone has any ideas, please post.

  2. What are the options for upgrading on the substantial reduced fares? Is it possible at all with miles or totally out of question? I can’t seem to find what class they book into.

  3. I think that if your paid positioning flight is on Skyteam and you respect the minimum connection time for domestic to international at IAH, you should be protected by the airline in the event of IRROPS.
At least I know that AA’s policy is to protect passengers on separate oneworld tickets, Skyteam should be similar. Try searching for “skyteam separate tickets” on FlyerTalk, you’ll probably find your answer there. 😉
