What is the most important thing your favorite airline should improve?

a checklist with text and images

While standing in line for boarding of my flight to Frankfurt a couple weeks ago I (along with everyone else in line) was approached by a guy handing out what appeared to be business cards. Yeah, I thought it was strange. But it turns out he was soliciting passengers to complete a survey related to the trip. Maybe that it still a bit strange but I took the card. And now, cleaning out my jacket pockets, I found it again and filled out the survey this evening. It was a relatively typical consumer survey, though they definitely had more questions and answer options than many I’ve taken recently, especially those run directly by the airlines (this one was not).

This was my favorite question:

How do you choose only three? And which three would you choose? Do you base your choices on the specific flight in question or your overall travels with the airline? Anyone want to guess what three I chose??

I was also rather amused by the fine print in the prize drawing details:

The winner will get 2 long-haul tickets for any flight, single leg (and return), operated by the following airlines: American Airlines, Air France, Delta, KLM, Etihad, Finnair, Swiss , Thai Airways and Singapore Airlines.

Apparently entering a contest based on a United Airlines flight cannot win a United ticket. Oops. I’ll take JFK-Abu Dhabi though.

  1. 1. Replace cover of Hemispheres with photo of Turkmenbashi for all issues
    2. Allow redemptions to Soviet Lunar Base (why is it I can only redeem Air Astana Assassin Points for this?)
    3. Accept Rai Stone derivatives for payment.

  2. Wow, you could answer this several different ways depending on whether we’re talking short- or long-haul, economy or premium cabin. Courteous cabin crew would help in all scenarios. Let the grizzled FAs retire and bring back some younger staff who are actually excited to be there. On flights where meals are provided, United definitely needs to step up their quality. Meals in economy need more help in presentation, while the front of the plane needs more help in quality. Finally, I would speed up the wifi rollout and make it free to elites & those in premium cabins.
