These Crochet Flowers Make a Colorful Bouquet

There are so many ways to crochet flowers, but how do you display them after you make them? Learn how to crochet a flower and then turn multiples in a bouquet!

Skills Required: Beginner. You’ll need to know the basic chain stitch of crochet to make these. The great news is that if you’re just starting out with crochet, this is a perfect project with a lot of flexibility and no specific gauge required.

Do you love the look of crocheted flowers? Of course you do, because who doesn’t, I say! A pretty crochet flower in a bright color just says spring to me. I say you take some of these pretty yarn flowers and create a bouquet.

Crochet Flowers Pattern

The pattern for these flowers is as follows:

• Chain 63
• Decrease in the fourth chain from the hook and in each stitch all the way across
• Skip a stitch and decrease 6 times into the next stitch. Skip one stitch and single crochet into next stitch. Repeat all the way across
• Bind off, leaving a 10 inch strand. Roll your flower and sew together with the strand

So get crocheting and make a bunch of flowers. Then you’re ready to assemble your crochet flower bouquet . . . here’s how it’s done.

How to Crochet Flowers

Gather These Supplies

• Lion Brand bonbons – Crayons
• Crochet hook (size depends on how large your flowers are)
• 3/16″ dowel rod – 2
• Acrylic paint – green
• Paintbrush
• Craft knife
• Hot glue gun
• Ruler or tape measure
• Pencil

For this project, you’ll need approximately 38 – 40 yards of yarn per flower, and I recommend a G/6 or H/8 hook. The Bonbons are a sport weight yarn, about 10g per 38 – 40 yards.

Keep in mind, gauge is NOT important for this project. It’s really the perfect opportunity to practice crocheting and nailing your gauge for those patterns when it is important.

Use your tape pencil and pencil to mark off 12″ on the dowel rod. Each dowel rod is 36″ long and will make three stems.

You can use a regular saw to get through your dowel rod quickly, but if you aren’t a saw kind of gal (I didn’t have access to one), then use your craft knife as a saw. Just go about partway through on either side to score and then break it over a table. Hi-yah!

Use a pretty bright green color to paint your dowel rods.

Let them dry.

Then simply hot glue to the back of a flower – they take about two seconds to set.

After I did this project I realized . . . you could make double the number of flowers if you want both sides of the dowel rod to be covered. Glue one on one side and one on another. Just an idea!
