Saturated soils slow spring fieldwork

Indiana released its first weekly crop and weather report for the 2014 growing season.

Cool temperatures, saturated soil, heavy midweek rains, and flooding have prevented most forms of fieldwork.

Both Topsoil and Subsoil moisture are over 90 percent adequate to surplus.

Winter wheat and pastures are beginning to green statewide.

While producers may be behind on fieldwork, they typically would not begin planting corn for another week and soybean planting wouldn’t begin until late April.
