Fuel Up to Play 60 paying back for dairy farmers

A spokesperson for Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin says Fuel up to Play 60 has helped increase student access to healthy foods and consumption of dairy products.

Tina Peterson tells Brownfield the dairy checkoff has been supporting the national, in-school health and wellness program for more than a decade.  “More than 18 million students nationwide now have healthier food access including milk, cheese and yogurt in their schools.”

National Football League teams across the country partner with the program to reach K-12 students which Peterson says also encourages play.  “We work with the Green Bay Packers of course in Wisconsin and we promote fueling up your body with nutrient rich food and getting active and playing for at least 60 minutes a day.”

She says over the past seven years the program has helped increase milk usage in school breakfast programs by more than one billion pounds.
