MADISON – GOP Gov. Scott Walker raised slightly more than Democrat Tony Evers in August but has a much larger supply of cash for the final weeks of the campaign.

Walker raised $2.3 million last month and had $4.2 million in the bank as of the end of the month, according to a report he filed Tuesday.

Evers, the state schools superintendent, raised $1.9 million in August and had $1.6 million on hand.

In the race for attorney general, Democrat Josh Kaul out-raised GOP incumbent Brad Schimel in August.

Kaul took in about $217,000 and Schimel received about $166,000, according to their campaigns.

But Schimel had more cash in his account as of the end of the month — $1.1 million compared with Kaul's $917,000. That puts him on slightly better footing for the final weeks of the campaign.

A poll last week by Marquette University Law School showed Schimel leading Kaul 48 percent to 41 percent.

In the governor's race, Evers led Walker 49 percent to 44 percent.

Both Walker and Evers released TV ads Tuesday. Evers questioned whether Walker could be trusted on schools after past budget cuts and Walker revived a skit from "The Electric Company" to argue Evers would raise taxes.
