Woman Who Signed Letter in Support of Kavanaugh Rips His 'Horrible, Hurtful' Yearbook Page After Learning It Includes an Insult Directed at Her

Renate Schroeder Dolphin is one of the 65 women who signed a letter to the Senate Judiciary committee stating that “he has behaved honorably and treated women with respect.”

Then, Ms. Dolphin found out what Kavanaugh and his buddies had written up in their yearbook.

The word “Renate” appears at least 14 times in Georgetown Preparatory School’s 1983 yearbook, on individuals’ pages and in a group photo of nine football players, including Judge Kavanaugh, who were described as the “Renate Alumni.” It is a reference to Renate Schroeder, then a student at a nearby Catholic girls’ school.

Two of Judge Kavanaugh’s classmates say the mentions of Renate were part of the football players’ unsubstantiated boasting about their conquests. [...]

“I learned about these yearbook pages only a few days ago,” Ms. Dolphin said in a statement to The New York Times. “I don’t know what ‘Renate Alumnus’ actually means. I can’t begin to comprehend what goes through the minds of 17-year-old boys who write such things, but the insinuation is horrible, hurtful and simply untrue. I pray their daughters are never treated this way. I will have no further comment.” — www.nytimes.com/...

Kavanaugh’s lawyer claims the yearbook refers to one occasion when Kavanaugh kissed Ms. Dolphin. Kavanaugh’s classmates say he and others in the “fratty” culture insensitively boasted of having sex with various young women. One former student says he was shocked to see that Ms. Dolphin had signed the letter given the references in the yearbook.

One of Ms. Dolphin’s friends who also signed the letter said she was “sickened” by the yearbook’s “Renate” references. I guess a lot of people are figuring out Kavanaugh wasn’t nearly as “respectful” towards women as they were led to believe.

If you’re nominated for the Supreme Court and you have your lawyers apologizing for things in your high-school yearbook I guess things aren’t really going as planned.

In the scope of things Kavanaugh is accused of, this is a small thing. But for the women involved, it’s a gut punch, and just like the victims alleging abuse, they feel used.
