UPS says it will hire 500 seasonal employees in the Milwaukee area for the holiday rush this year. Nationally, the company says it plans to hire 100,000 temporary workers.

UPS said Monday that it expects to hire more than 500 seasonal employees in the greater Milwaukee area to support the anticipated increase in package volume that will begin in November and continue through January. Nationally, UPS expects to hire about 100,000 seasonal employees.

"The full- and part-time seasonal positions — primarily package handlers, drivers and driver-helpers — have long been an entry point for permanent employment at UPS," the company said in a statement. "Many senior UPS executives, including Chief Executive Officer David Abney and other members of the company’s senior leadership team, started their UPS careers as part-time employees."

Tractor-trailer and package car driver jobs start at $18.75 per hour. Pay starts at $10.35 per hour for package handlers and $15 for driver-helpers.

Permanent UPS jobs — including part-time jobs — come with healthcare and retirement benefits. At many UPS locations, part-time employees in college are eligible to receive up to $25,000 in tuition assistance through the company’s Earn and Learn program.

UPS is hiring at the following three local locations.

  • Oak Creek – 6800 S 6th St.
  • Elm Grove – 12400 W Blue Mound Road
  • Sturtevant – 10204 Highway 11
