34 Things Blog Party | #29-34

by | Storytelling Ideas | 0 comments

Welcome back to the 34 Things Blog Party! You can see the introductory post in this series here, but here’s the gist:

To kick off my 34th year, I’m telling 34 stories. I’m sharing 34 things I want my daughter to know about me, all small-but-significant stories that didn’t make it into the album for my Before Your Story workshop.

And best of all, you’re invited to participate with me! You can find all of the instructions at the end of this post. Reminder: The last day to enter is February 26!

Previous Things: #1 | #2-7 | #8-14 | #15-21 | #22-28

#29 of 34 | I once gave myself blue streaks. I vividly remember going to the Hot Topic in Terra Haute to buy blue hair dye. It was supposed to rinse out in 7 days. Except on light blonde hair, it turned green and didn’t wash out for six weeks. I apparently didn’t get any sun that summer, which is what I guess happens when you go to physics camp.

#30 of 34 | I had an Elmo and Zoe phase, in high school. During the mid-1990’s the Tickle Me Elmo came out and Elmo (and friends) were suddenly all the rage again, especially among teenagers. I was into it, down to posters on my walls and stuffed animals.

#31 of 34 | I sported a pouf in middle school. During 6th through 8th grade I was obsessive about my hair, so much that I once slept upright on the couch to not disturb the perfect pouf. I also once tattled on a friend because she messed up my hair in school. The pouf consisted of bunched hair pushed forward, clipped in place, and in later years held firmly with copious amounts of hairspray.

#32 of 34 | I got chicken pox on my 5th birthday. Not before or after, but literally on my 5th birthday I came down with the chicken pox. I also apparently got a My Little Pony castle for that birthday, but  I mostly remember the oatmeal baths and calamine lotion. So not fun.

#33 of 34 | I am not good at baking. I love to make and (of course) eat cookies, but I’m not very good at any kind of baking. I try hard to measure accurately, but I don’t have that special touch needed to make it work. Heck, I couldn’t even manage to use a bread machine!

#34 of 34 | I sucked my thumb. I sucked my thumb long past it was appropriate to do so and even went to oral therapy for it. It’s rather embarrassing to admit, but when I am anxious and need soothing I can find it popped in my mouth. I’m not really conscious of it.
