Rain turns away Minnesota farmer ready to begin harvest

A corn and soybean farmer ready to begin harvest in south-central Minnesota was turned away by another bout of wet weather.

Speaking to Brownfield Thursday, Bryan Biegler of Lake Wilson says excessive moisture has been a problem throughout the season.

“I don’t know how long this (delay) will be.  If the (rain) stops now, we should be able to get going probably by the end of next week hopefully.”

He says they’ve received about 4 inches of rain the last few days.

Biegler was frustrated by a very wet June too.

“I suppose out of all my fields together I probably had about 35 acres drowned out of soybeans.  My corn all came through fine, but mainly just in the beans where I had drowned out spots.”

The Minnesota soybean harvest was running almost a week ahead of normal before rain returned to the state.
