With a community like the one around Mud Run Guide, it is often hard to limit the community members of the week down to two individuals. Each week our social media guru Bonnie Wilson combs through those posted tagged with #mudrunguide. She has the daunting task each week to pick two to highlight. This week we focus on two athletes, one at a Conquer the Gauntlet event and the other took on the Spartan in Killington, Vermont.

The first community member of the week spotlighted is Erica Vernon (erica.vernon). She writes “Oh you know, just failing rigs and all. No big deal ? Thanks @conquerthegauntlet for an awesome first OCR back in 2 years! Back out on the course this weekend at Dallas @savagerace and I couldn’t be more excited!”

Frankie M. Lazo (frankiefml) recently had a huge weekend at the Spartan in Killington, Vermont. He writes: “You guessed it! Still Living? Came into 2018 #Spartanrace season with some huge aspirations ever since I qualified for #SpartanWC last year in Killington, VT. Like every September, since 2016, I went to go meet none other than mother natures steep big booty mountain in Vermont called #SpartanKILLINGton, but not once, nor twice, 3rd x was the charm. ⛰?? .

On Friday, @spartan_392 and I arrived to Vermont late at night with only about 4-5 hours of sleep, and still managed to wake up in time for @spartanrace #UltraBeast Elite Heat at 6am on Saturday. After 29.2 mi. (47.01kms), 12,981′ elevation, 64 obstacles, badly bruised toenails & a piece of soul left on the mountain later, I finished in 11hrs 50mins & placed 40th/130 overall, which I won't take for granted considering it was my first time & only 15% participants finished this race. ? Congrats to 10 badass females & other individuals that passed me. For those that didn't make the cut off time, don't feel discouraged, cause you should feel proud even thinking of racing this race. I'm happy with my race, how I performed & how it all turned out.

On Sunday, I had a 3rd date with her⛰ cause if I did it twice, then that means the 3rd is official, right? ?‍♂️ #DeathMarch ?? First time running with my age group and still had some tank and legs in me from Saturday. 4hrs 18mins, 12-13 mi., 4,300 ft elevation, & another 31 obstacles later, I finally managed to place 3rd on the podium. ?✊️#Bronze What a worth while experience to take part of. All the sacrifices, persistence, grit, discipline, and medal after medal all lead to this moment. Will definitely not take this for granted. What a great day to be alive. Killington never disappoints year after year. ?

Thanks @spartan and volunteers for putting together a great event. Congrats to everyone who left it all out there on the weekend, regardless of how you raced. It simply takes a lot of courage to step up to the uncertainty, put your ego aside and put your heart ❤️ on the line. .
41+ miles later, it was an incredible weekend to cherish for a lifetime. Had a lot of fun running with the rest of the competitors. As always, it won't be my last. ?”
