Update: During an event Monday night at its headquarters in California, SpaceX announced that Japanese billionaire entrepreneur Yusaku Maezawa will be the paying astronaut for the company's first mission to the moon in 2023. He also said he would take 6 to 8 artists with him.

The first human to fly around the moon since the storied astronauts of the Apollo era will get there on SpaceX's next-generation Big Falcon Rocket, the company said Thursday night, teasing to an event tonight that will reveal details about the launch vehicle and passenger.
