Holloman man dies in rollover crash on US 70

OTERO COUNTY - A man from Holloman Air Force Base died following a rollover crash on US Highway 70, according to the New Mexico State Police.

NMSP reported they begin investigating the crash about 8:30 p.m. Sept. 15, around mile post 185 on US 70, between Alamogordo and Las Cruces.

Police said a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic was traveling east on US 70 at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and rolled.

The driver, who was identified only as a 20-year-old Virginia male from Holloman, was killed in the crash, police said. A 20-year-old male passenger from Vermont was transported for unknown injuries.

Police said alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor to the crash and the driver does not appear to have properly worn his seat belt.  

The crash is under investigation.
