Tony Smith is returning to Marquette.

One of the school's all-time greatest players, Smith will join Steve "The Homer" True for radio broadcasts of Golden Eagles men's basketball games this season.

Smith, 50, replaces Jim McIlvaine, who stepped down after calling games with True since 2005.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be back with my Marquette family,” Smith said in a statement.  “I already feel like I am home and I’m looking forward to working with Homer and the team.  It’s going to be a great season.”

Smith scored 1,688 points at MU from 1986-'90, putting him eighth on the school's career list.

He was drafted No. 51 overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1990 and spent eight seasons as a player in the NBA.

Smith recently worked as an analyst for Milwaukee Bucks television broadcasts on Fox Sports Wisconsin.

In June, MU extended its radio partnership with ESPN Milwaukee for three more years. Golden Eagles games can be heard in the Milwaukee area on AM-540.
