Delta Updates Platinum Medallion Promotion (Targeted)

Last month, I wrote about a promotion in which Delta was giving away Platinum Medallion status for those who flew one round-trip in “BusinessElite”.

Platinum Medallion Delta

While, Delta markets some of their domestic flights that continue on with the same flight number as BusinessElite. For instance, someone posted on Flyertalk they booked a one-way “BusinessElite” ticket from New York (JFK) to Atlanta for under $400 one-way and was then able to qualify for this offer. Another member writes about their “BusinessElite” flight from JFK to San Juan.

Delta JFK-San Juan

Delta JFK-San Juan on a 737 coded as BusinessElite.

Delta had not intended for these domestic flights coded as BusinessElite to qualify, and since they have updated their terms and conditions for this offer to clearly state that it must be a true BusinessElite ticket such as a long-haul international and transcontinental flight which includes transatlantic, transpacific, or transcontinental.

The targeted offer includes complimentary Platinum Medallion Status, complimentary Delta Sky Club membership, and 100,000 Delta SkyMiles after purchasing a BusinessElite ticket.

So you could see how booking a $400 ticket to San Juan in “BusinessElite” on a 737 would be an amazing deal-which is exactly what Delta realized too and why they updated the terms.

Details of this offer include:

Register before March 31, 2014, to receive:
• 60 days of complimentary Platinum Medallion status.
• 60 days of complimentary Delta Sky Club membership.

To help you hold onto the perks that you richly deserve, all you have to do is book one BusinessElite ticket and fly within 60 days of registration, and you’ll earn:
• Platinum Medallion status through February 2015.
• Delta Sky Club membership for an additional 10 months.
• 100,000 bonus miles.

New Terms and Conditions: If you meet the criteria to participate, you will receive Platinum Medallion status and Delta Sky Club® access for 60 days. The 60-day period will start upon enrollment in the promotion. In order to extend your Medallion status and Delta Sky Club membership after the 60 days, you’ll need to purchase and fly one qualifying BusinessElite® fare (fare classes J/C/D/I/Z) on a flight offering BusinessElite service within 60 days after enrolling. BusinessElite service is limited to the following long-haul international and transcontinental flights: (a) transatlantic, (b) transpacific, (c) transcontinental flights between John F. Kennedy/JFK and Los Angeles/LAX, San Francisco/SFO, and Seattle/SEA, and (d) between the U.S. and Brasilia/BSB, Buenos Aires/EZE, Lima/LIM, Rio de Janeiro/GIG, Santiago, Chile/SCL and Sao Paulo/GRU. Flights offering BusinessElite service may be modified by Delta at any time and without prior notice. Qualifying flight must be marketed and operated by Delta. Codeshare flights operated by carriers other than Delta are excluded from this offer. Only tickets purchased with a published fare that earns full mileage accrual will qualify. Upon taking a qualifying flight, your Medallion status will automatically be extended through February 2015, your Delta Sky Club membership will be extended an additional ten (10) months and you will earn 100,000 bonus miles.  Bonus miles earned with this promotion do not count toward Medallion or Million Miler™ status.

Bottom Line

Has anyone been targeted for this offer? Are you planning to take advantage of this offer? What BusinessEilte flight do you plan to book?

  1. To understand this-can I get the 60 days free without booking the business class fare? Would this give me these privileges on a flight on Attaliia which originates on Delta and continues to Europe on Atalia?

  2. I booked a business elite flight from ATL – LGA before they updated the promotion terms. When I wasn’t credited with the promotion, I wrote a letter to Delta and included my receipts. To their credit, they honored the promotion for me and credited my SkyMiles account accordingly. I am now a Gold Medallion member through Feb of next year.

  3. sorry for seeming stupid I became PM for year 2015. I am not a sky club member. If I sign for this promotion I will gain limited entrance to delta sky clubs? I just want to make sure it won’t jeopardize my current PM status … Thanks!
