Update, Sept. 10:

The Bossier Night Market, originally scheduled for Sept. 8, has been rescheduled for Sept. 22 due to severe weather. It will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. in the south parking lot of Pierre Bossier Mall, 2950 E. Texas St.

Original story:

One hundred and seventy-five years of history will be celebrated Saturday as Bossier Parish marks the anniversary of its founding in conjunction with a special Bossier Night Market event.

Bossier Night Market

Bossier Parish, named after Gen. Pierre Evariste Jean-Baptiste Bossier, was established in February 1843.

Since its first event in December 2016, the Bossier Night Market has been held several times in the south parking lot of Pierre Bossier Mall, 2950 East Texas St.

At this special anniversary event, more than 200 vendors, as well as food trucks and live music, will come together to celebrate the culture and history of Bossier Parish.

Wares for sale will include wood crafts, jewelry, jams, salsa, clothing, home decor, baked goods, honey, candles, coffee and more.

The Bossier Parish Library will also sponsor a tent with 175th anniversary-themed giveaways and a free make-and-take craft.

The Bossier Night Market first launched as a Christmastime event after Manager Chris Graham said he was inspired by the numerous night markets he experienced while on a prior trip to Asia.

“It was just amazing how families and individuals would just set out all their stuff from 2 to 4 in the afternoon, and by 10 you’d never know they were there — they’d pack it all up, and that’s how they made their living,” he previously told The Times. “On almost every major street in every major Asian country, there’s a night market every day.”

Admission is free. For more information on the Bossier Parish 175th Anniversary activities, call the Bossier Parish Library History Center at (318) 746-7717.
