According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the have offered the a second round pick for veteran Earl Thomas, who Josina Anderson reported will join his team for the first time on the year today, as NFL teams get ready to play the first week of the regular season.

During the , it was reported the Cowboys called the Seahawks to offer them a third rounder but never heard back.

With the Dallas Cowboys' front office upping their offer and still being shut down, what's next on this standoff?

It's tough to imagine the Seahawks asking for a first rounder in exchange for a 29-year old safety who needs a very expensive long-term extension, but that could be what they want. However, it's equally hard to imagine the Cowboys' front office giving away a first rounder.

This feels like a trade that can happen if the teams throw a little bit of “change” on the table as well. For the Cowboys, this could mean a player that could help the Seahawks' needs or even a safety to make up for losing Thomas. That could mean parting ways with someone like Kavon Frazier or Xavier Woods. Also, with the Seahawks needing a pass rusher, the Cowboys could take advantage of 's comeback to deal away a young player like Taco Charlton, who has made a ton of progress since being drafted in 2017.

Additional draft picks could also get a deal done. If the Cowboys throw in a Day 3 pick, it might be enough to make the Seahawks pull the trigger. Whatever they want in return remains to be seen.

It's also worth noting, week 3 will feature a Cowboys vs Seahawks match-up. Seattle may be considering waiting until after that before trading Thomas to the Cowboys, a team that could emerge a contender in the NFC.
