Fiddleheads is proposing to refurbish the building at Brookfield and Fairview avenues, move it to another location. A public hearing was held on July 17 in Brookfield.

The City of Brookfield Common Council Tuesday, Aug. 21, approved the rezoning of 19100 North Hills Drive and the relocation of the train depot in a 13-1 vote. Alderman Chris Blackburn was the dissenting vote.

Fiddleheads Coffee Roasters is proposing to refurbish the building at Brookfield and Fairview avenues, and move it to another location nearby.

The site is 8.26 acres and the proposal is to divide it into three land uses. The first is the existing apartment, the second is for new six single-family lots. The third use is the coffee shop within the depot. There will be no drive-thru at the coffee shop.

Applicant and owner Kevin Leitermann wants to subdivide his property at 19100 North Hills Drive, allocating one acre of land to be used in relocating, restoring and preserving the historic Brookfield Junction Depot through a cooperative effort between Fiddleheads Coffee Roasters, the City of Brookfield and Waukesha County, according to online meeting documents.

The Depot and a commercial lot would be owned and managed by Fiddleheads for the operation of a local coffee roaster/bakery establishment and the civic use of the Depot as a Trailhead for Waukesha County’s Fox River bike trail and its connection with the City’s Greenway Corridor trail system.
