AeroVironment Quantix drone helps crop farmers make decisions

A drone technology company has designed a crop management tool to help growers make better decisions in a timely fashion.

AeroVironment director of business development Matt Strein says their Quantix drone is versatile and user-friendly.

“It’s a one-stop-shop.  (farmers) don’t want to go to a bunch of different providers, they want to go to the drone manufacturer that has the sensor, the analytics, and also supports it, which we do.”

He tells Brownfield the Quantix drone can scout 400 acres in 45 minutes on a single battery charge.

“We verify application throughout the year in-season, so when you do an application you go out and verify if it did or didn’t work, identify the area where there’s an issue, and then go back to it and fully understand what it’s doing.”

Strein says images captured by the drone can be processed by AeroVironment’s DSS software to help diagnose pest, disease, and water pressures before they start impacting yield.
