Photo submissions deadline Sept. 22 for Sierra Blanca Region Cultural Community Calendar

Photographs should showcase Mescalero and Lincoln County landscapes, wildlife, seasons, sunsets, sunrise, cultural events, street art and wild edibles among suggested topics

  • Horizontal 5x7 prints and a digital copy are required

Photographers are invited to submit area photos to be considered for the 2019 Sierra Blanca Region Cultural Community Calendar

The deadline is noon, Saturday, Sept. 22.

The required specifications are a horizontal 5x7-inch print with name, phone number and email on the back delivered to Postal Annex  A email digital copy of 300dpi, horizontal, at least 10" x 12" to must be emailed to Jeannette Ortega at piecesoflifephoto@gmail.com  

Possible topics include Mescalero and Lincoln County landscapes, wildlife, seasons, sunsets, sunrise, cultural events, street art, Wild Mountain medicine/edibles and other related subjects..

The first photo submission is free, but a $5 fee is charged per additional photo entry, No more than four entries per person. No cell phone submissions allowed. Pay by check, cash or money order made out to contest Graphics Artist Jeannette Ortega.

Winners will be announced Aspenfest weekend with an opportunity for the community to vote on the cover photo via public viewing. Details to be announced. Each photograph chosen for the calendar will be awarded $25 and five calendars, a value of $65 to $75., to be sold, shared or traded by the photographer. Each calendar month will share photographer’s photo, brief bio and website, if available.

The project originated in 2016, with the main purpose of bringing together Lincoln County and Mescalero photographers to showcase their work, and to build community by sharing important community dates, project coordinator  Andrea Fernandez said.

The calendar creates economic development via exposure for local photographers, is an advertising venue for business sponsors and produces a small profit via calendar sales, she said. A portion of proceeds also goes towards supporting community health, wellness and stewardship projects in the Sierra Blanca Region.
