Alamogordo police arrest suspect in Friday's homicide

Alamogordo Police Department detectives charged a 36-year-old suspect in the fatal shooting at 1000 Seventh Ave. Friday.

ALAMOGORDO – Alamogordo Police Department detectives arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with Friday’s early morning homicide in the 1000 block of Seventh Avenue, an APD spokesman said.

APD Lt. David Kunihiro said Ignacio Galindo is charged with one count of first-degree felony murder (willful and deliberate), one count of second-degree aggravated burglary with a deadly weapon, one count of fourth-degree felony aggravated stalking, three counts of third-degree tampering with evidence and two counts of misdemeanor injuring or tampering a motor vehicle.

Galindo is jailed at the Otero County Detention Center pending his arraignment in court.

Kunihiro said officers responded to 1000 Seventh Ave. around 1:06 a.m. Friday in reference to a shooting at the home.

“Upon arrival, we located a male subject suffering from a gunshot wound,” he said. “The male subject was transported to Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center where he passed away from his injures.”

Kunihiro said APD is not ready to release the name of the 32-year-old Alamogordo man who was fatally shot in the incident at this time despite next of kin being notified of the man passing away.

The Alamogordo Police Department arrested an Alamogordo man in connection with the fatal shooting at 1000 Seventh Ave. that occurred the morning of Aug. 17, 2018.

He said APD learned through investigation an alleged physical altercation occurred between Galindo and the victim Thursday evening.

Kunihiro said the preliminary investigation indicates Galindo allegedly went to the residence in the 1000 block of Seventh Avenue around 1:06 a.m. Friday then fired one round from a firearm and striking the victim.

“Galindo was located a short distance later from the house,” he said. “He left in a pickup truck then was taken into custody by APD officers on 10th Street east of College Avenue. We located the firearm in the area of the incident. There were three other people in the house, a female and two children.”

Kunihiro said the woman and two children were not hurt during the incident.

He said Galindo had a past relationship with the woman who was at the home at the time of the shooting.

“They have children together as well,” Kunihiro said. “I don’t know if those two children belong to those two people (Galindo and the woman).”
