USDA Under Secretary hopeful on NAFTA

President Trump has said he is willing to hold out on the right deal when it comes to the North American Free Trade Agreement, but USDA Trade Under Secretary Ted McKinney says he would be shocked if NAFTA fell through.

“I anticipate it landing smoothly and, at least with Mexico, in fairly  short order,” he says. “Canada has been a bit more difficult and I hope that they’ll then follow so it’s a trilateral not a bilateral deal.”

He says he believes the negotiations will lead to a deal.

McKinney says he’s also hopeful about the Japanese market.

“I hope that we can get to Japan very soon but I do not see that being a years long process,” he says.

McKinney spoke to ag media at the Indiana State Fair this week.
