Weekly ethanol production down, stocks up

U.S. ethanol production for the week ending August 10th backed off from the previous week but remained at relatively high levels even as supplies rose. The average for the week ending August 3rd was officially the second highest on record at 1.1 million barrels a day.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says production averaged 1.072 million barrels a day, down 28,000 on the week, while stocks climbed 94,000 barrels to 23.017 million, just a week after jumping 956,000 barrels and the third week in a row with a supply increase.

The industry is preparing for the end of the summer driving season and there are a lot of questions about if or when the Trump administration’s year-round E15 proposal will go into effect.

Corn for ethanol use is expected to meet or exceed USDA projections for the current marketing year, which runs through the end of August.
