Say Hello to the Newest Use for Alaska Airlines’ Miles – Finnair Flights!

The ability to earn Alaska Airlines miles on Finnair flights has been an option for a while now, but as of yesterday, it’s possible to redeem Alaska Airlines miles for flights on Finnair.

More options are always better, but the number of Alaska Airlines miles you’ll need for Finnair flights doesn’t make for the best redemption value.  Often, you’ll be better off using Alaska Airlines miles for other partner award flights.

The award chart for these particular flights hasn’t been published, but based on searches, the following one-way mileage rates apply for flights on Finnair:

• Coach between the US and Europe – 30,000 Alaska Airlines miles 
• Coach between Europe and Asia – 32,500 Alaska Airlines miles 
• Business Class between Europe and Asia – 60,000 Alaska Airlines miles
• Business Class between the US and Europe – 70,000 Alaska Airlines miles 

You can also fly Finnair within Europe for 12,500 Alaska Airlines miles one-way in coach, and 20,000 Alaska Airlines miles one-way in Business class.

Just don’t forget, you’ll also have to pay taxes & fees.  Though on Finnair, they won’t amount to much more than $60 (and often times are a lot less).  And there aren’t a plethora of Finnair flights between the US and Europe, compared to other major airlines.

But again, it’s great there’s now another way to use your Alaska Airlines miles.  But to give you an idea of what you can get with Alaska Airlines’ other partners,  Million Mile Secrets team member Jason booked a First Class award flight on Japan Airlines for only 70,000 Alaska Airlines miles one-way.

And it only costs 57,500 Alaska Airlines miles to fly one-way in Business Class between the US and Europe on American Airlines.  Or you can fly in Business Class on Cathay Pacific from the US to Asia for 50,000 Alaska Airlines miles one-way.
